For this assignment we were supposed to think of puns and find a way to visually display them ,using photoshop to put images together. This assignment was really fun to do. At first it was hard to think of ideas and puns that weren't mainstream but once we got started it was pretty easy. The actual photoshopping was pretty easy and fun to do and it was a good way to be creative.

This was our final week of choosing a topic and taking multiple photos of that topic. This week I chose to do motion. Shutter speed: 1/60 Aperture: f13 ISO: 250 I did a levels adjustment and changed brightness and contrast. For this photo week I chose to do motion. It was pretty hard to get the shutter speed just right to make sure that there was still motion but the main subject was still in focus. There were a couple of failed attempts before I got to the right settings. While I was taking the photos I tried a couple of different things like taking multiple photos one after another and moving the camera with the subject. I also made sure there were different types of motion to see which one worked best.
For this assignment we were allowed to pick our own photoshop tutorials to do and figure out how to do in photoshop. I learned a lot about new photoshop tools while doing this assignment. I used different blur filters that I didn't know existed and tools that made subtle but significant changes like the tilt- shift tool. I saw that there were different modes that you could convert each layer to like instead of normal to color or light that interested me. It was cool to see what a small change made to the overall photo. I tried to different types of tutorials to mix it up and use different tools. It was overall an assignment I learned a lot of things from and am intrigued to see what I can later do with.
When I first walked into this class I didn't really know what to expect. I was curious about what exactly we were going to learn and focus on. Soon I realized that it would be centered around photoshop and using different camera modes to take the best possible photos. I knew a little about taking photos and photoshop form last year, but I had very limited knowledge. I remember the first assignment we had to do to practice taking different styles of photos. I took the camera home and just walked around looking for something cool. I would try everything in different angles and positions just trying to meet the criteria and figure out what looked best. Some of my worst work was probably from these initial assignments. As we learned more about how to use the camera and different photoshop tools I slowly became more used to using them and taking & editing photos. I went from wandering around and looking for photos to that might look cool like... I also began to like taking certain types of photos more and knew more of what looked good when. I also started to use photoshop to elevate my photos a little more. One of the most fun things I tried for a photo week was light painting. It was something new that I hadn't heard of and I wanted to try it. There was a lot of trial and error and things didn't always work but it was cool to see that a camera could do that. There were some weeks where there was that one shot that I really liked or weeks when I thought they were all good or not so good. It was interesting to experiment more with camera modes and lighting to get different natural effects and use photoshop to enhance them. These photos are me trying to take photos in different modes, using photoshop, and playing off natural light Now, I look back and can see how much I've learned over the trimester, from the first shutter speed and aperture assignment to now just adjusting the camera to make it work. There are many photos I look back on that I'm proud of and can see the difference in between the first few weeks. The last photoshop assignment where we chose out own tutorials I saw how much more I learned from just seeing new tools and how much I liked being able to portray certain effects. This class has taught me a lot and introduced a whole different way to show my creativity. These are some of my favorite photos that I took or photoshopped.
For the 6th week in the row we chose a topic to take photos of. This week I chose black and white. f 2.8 Shutter Speed: 1/60 ISO: 160 This week taking photos was really easy considering I didn't really have to. I looked through old albums and picked photos I hadn't used that I thought would look good in black and white. It was kind of hard to make sure the color didn't looked washed out. I did a levels adjustment on most of the photos and made some hues lighter and others darker. Overall it was fun to play around with the photo to make it look the best in black and white.
In this assignment we were supposed to find an open area to take photos in. You were supposed to either set a timer and take a picture of yourself in various places in the space or have someone pose in different places. Then we were supposed to go to photoshop and combine the photos so there were multiple of 1 person in the photo. In the assignment it was hard to pose other people in positions that wouldn't overlap too much in the end. I had a couple photos where there was too much overlap so one pose was covered by another. It was also fun though to go out and pose in crazy positions. I also learned how to better use the lasso tool to outline things and the layer mask to help conceal. It was useful to be able to conceal with black and reveal with white in case you didn't outline the person well enough and had to retouch. It was overall a fun assignment.
For this assignment we were supposed to take a picture of any part of the school and pick a theme. We photoshopped things that related to the theme into the photo, adding details like shadows to the objects. Or, seemingly changing the weather using a photoshop tool by doing things like adding filters. Through this assignment I learned to better use several tools. In photoshop I now know how to transform an image and manipulate only the transformation to blacken it and then lighten it into a shadow. I also have a better knowledge of filters and using the brush tool to make in seem like there was a weather change in your photo.
This week it was the 5th week of taking photos of a certain theme or subject. This week I chose to do shadow and light for my topic. f 7.1 Shutter Speed 1/125 ISO 100 For editing I used the brush tool to make the background darker and played around with exposure, contrast, and levels. This week I thought it was fun to take photos of shadow and light. I tried showing the light in different ways like in nature, on people, and in still life. It was hard to take photos sometimes since it wasn't always sunny of there wasn't natural light. I liked being able to manipulate the shadows sometimes to make the photo more dynamic or interesting.
We were supposed to pick a topic to take photos for the 4th week in a row. This week I decided to do light painting. This week I chose light painting. It was hard to set everything up right and make sure your surroundings were dark enough. When painting the person I had trouble painting only her and not getting things I didn't want in it. It was also hard to make sure my shadow wasn't in the photo. In the end she was a little out of focus on all of them since the shutter was open for so long, but the experience was really fun to do over the weekend.
In this assignment we took several photos standing in the same place rotating to take in a landscape. We put the individual photos together in photo merge to make a panoramic photo. It was cool to learn about a different tool in photoshop. It was interesting to see how a pano would come up messed up with one type of pano and would work with another. I think that the type I liked the best was college or cylindrical. They seemed to work the best and came out with best panoramas in my opinion. It was a lot of trial and error. Surprisingly, I didn't find it that hard to take and line up the photos even without a tripod.
